About Us
Grammies Daycare and Learning Center is a family owned and operated business. The center is governed by a chain of command that consists of the Owner, Center Director, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Lead Teachers, and Teacher’s Aid. The Center also employs a Driver for after-schoolers (only at Upper Valley) and a full-time cook.
Grammies Daycare and Learning Center takes pride in the training of our teachers. GDLC feels that all staff are in full understanding of the concepts and intricacy of the “Learning About My World” Curriculum Program. In addition, GDLC oversees all weekly curriculum plans for each classroom. Moreover, we promote the further training and advance education of our teachers that goes above and beyond Texas Child Care License Minimum Standards.
A little about Grammies
Established in November of 2005, Grammies Day Care and Learning Center (GDLC) has become a
second home for all children and families that we serve. We provide a learning environment
that promotes social-emotional, cognitive and physical development. Utilizing the Child
Observation Record (COR) we have developed the Learning About My World curriculum Program
which bases its foundation on the child’s individual needs. The Our World Program encourages
parent and family involvement to help implement personal and family values and techniques to
maintain consistency between the home and the daycare. In addition, the high tech security and
web cam surveillance system gives peace of min and comfort that ensures the safety of the
children. Most importantly, GDLC values family, love and care for all children, which sustains
a trusting environment.
Graciela Frescas (Grammies), founder and owner, is caring, gracious, and generous. She gives
unconditional love and opens her heart to any person that enters her life. She is patient,
compassionate, and exudes a positive energy that is infectious. Grammies was the fifth of
eleven siblings growing up in the Lower Valley of El Paso Texas. She married Jose Frescas
(Pop) in October of 1975. Together they successfully raised four children who are now adults
with families of their own.
She began her journey as a childcare provider with the birth of her first grandson. In May of 1998
she began caring for him at home. This became the motivating factor for opening a home daycare. In
2001, with the support of her husband, Grammies Daycare was established. In the four years of her
home daycare, Grammies had come to realize the difficulties that working parents face in pursuit of
a trusting, reliable and safe haven for their children.
The success of her home daycare demanded a larger center and enabled her to spread her service further.
Having prior experiences in several other family owned businesses, she sought advice from the Small Business
Administration and examined the steps to becoming a licensed daycare and learning center. She also sought
the advice of two of her children who had extensive experience in childcare and child development. Having
researched the need for childcare in the area, the location of the new center was decided and construction
began.
Grammies Daycare and Learning Center opened its doors on November 9,2005 with 9 children enrolled. By word-of-mouth, GDLC became the fastest growing childcare center in El Paso. The center currently has over 115 children
enrolled. The center operates with a staff of 15 employees, under Nicholas Frescas, Director, and Divina
Frescas-Buentello, Assistant Director. Altogether, GDLC management has over 20 years of combined experience.
GDLC is continuously striving to better serve families. Future programs will include; family and drug counseling
by Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC), children with special needs evaluations conducted by Licensed Special Needs
Consultant and enrichment programs including music, computer, and extra curricular activities. Upgrades in security
will be maintained along with a more interactive and informative computer database to aid in the daily routine of the children.
The Grammies’ philosophy is the strength and foundation that is apart from others. GDLC feels privileged to have the
opportunity to shape, mold and influence young minds for a more positive and family-oriented lifestyle. GDLC will continue
to serve families and children, upholding that the love and nurturing of children is the priority.
